No matter how long you choose spend in the saddle, on Swan Mountain Outfitters trail rides you’ll be treated to beautiful scenery and opportunities to spot unique flora and fauna in the pristine solitude of the Swan Valley. For your own safety and that of our horses and mules, our trail rides are always lead by a guide and are always conducted at a walking gait.
Two Hour Trail Rides
Many of our guests at Swan Mountain Outfitters are new to mountain horseback riding and perhaps find the prospect of an all day ride on a horse a little daunting. Or, even confident riders may find themselves on tighter budgets or short on time.
A two hour ride is our most popular option and seems to satisfy everyone’s horse fix without becoming too saddle sore. On our two hour ride you’ll meander through old growth forests and admire the huge ponderosa trees. Watch for ripening berries and keep your eyes peeled for deer and black bear through the trees!
5 Hour: Lunchrock Trail Ride
The 5 hour trail ride includes a lunch. On this ride you’ll build on the two hour experience by gaining elevation. Our riders are treated to more views of the Swan and Mission mountain ranges. Enjoy a nice stretch break as you enjoy your picnic lunch! These rides are still beginner friendly for the adventurous soul, but novice riders may begin to feel a little saddle sore towards the end. Still, it’s worth it for the scenery and experience!
All Day Trail Rides
Swan Mountain Outfitters also offers spectacular longer duration trail rides (6 to 8 hours) that include lunch at an unforgettable spot. More experienced riders love this opportunity to push themselves and spend not only a longer time in the saddle, but enjoy a more technical portion of the trail than the other rides offer. The trail winds up Lion Creek drainage paralleling the creek the majority of the ride, and features some steeper climbs and descents. Lunch is eaten beside the creek in a stunning cedar grove, it’s hard to beat!
Fish & Ride Day Trip Combination
Swan Mountain Outfitters offers two daily destinations for our fishing/trail ride excursions; Hall and Bond Lakes.
The day begins by meeting your guide and your trusty steed. We’ll gather up our gear and hit the trail to ride to our fishing destination. Once you arrive, you have your choice to fish the shore, tributary streams or darn a pair of waders and venture out into the mountain lake in a float tube that we will pack in with a mule. We’ll pack a hearty lunch and refreshment for you.
All you have to do is relax fish and enjoy an epic Montana day in the pristine solitude of the Swan Valley! Learn more here.
