Horseback rides in and around Glacier National Park were the original way visitors explored the Glacier area, and still represent one of the best ways to see the sights. But, on a hot summer day, what could be better than combining a horseback ride with a refreshing and exhilarating whitewater rafting trip?

Glacier Guides / Montana Raft Company

One Day Horse/Raft Trip
This trip combines a two hour morning horseback ride in Glacier National Park with a 2 to 4 hour afternoon whitewater raft trip on the middle fork of the Flathead River. Check in at the Apgar Corral at either 7:45am or 10:00am for the C.M. Russell two hour trail ride. You’ll finish with the horses at either 10:30am or 12:45pm, at which point you'll head over to the Bistro at the Montana Raft Company office in West Glacier to enjoy a bite to eat, included in your package, before checking in for the rafting portion of your trip at either 11:45am or 1:45pm.

Wild River Adventures

Greenhorn Saddle Paddle - West Glacier
This trip combines a one hour morning horseback ride in West Glacier with a 3 to 4 hour whitewater raft trip on the middle fork of the Flathead River. Check in at the West Glacier Corral behind the Rawhide Trading Post at 9:15am for the One Hour trail ride. You’ll finish with the horses at 11:00am, which will leave you time to grab a hot meal at the Rawhide Restaurant and Steak House before checking into the Wild River Adventures office, conveniently located right next door. Check in for the rafting portion of trip at 1:30pm.

Flathead Express Saddle Paddle - West Glacier
This trip combines a two hour morning horseback ride in West Glacier with a 3 to 4 hour afternoon whitewater raft trip on the middle fork of the Flathead River. Check in at the West Glacier Corral behind the Rawhide Trading Post at 10:00am for the Two Hour trail ride. You’ll finish with the horses at 12:45pm and have time to grab a quick bite to eat at the Rawhide Restaurant and Steak House before checking into the Wild River Adventures office, conveniently located right next door. Check in for the rafting portion of trip at 1:30pm.

Glacier Saddle Paddle - Apgar, Glacier National Park
This trip combines an early morning two hour horseback ride in Glacier National Park with a 3 to 4 hour afternoon whitewater raft trip on the middle fork of the Flathead River. Check in at the Apgar Corral at 7:45am for the C.M. Russell  two hour trail ride. You’ll finish with the horses at either 10:30am, which will leave you plenty of time to grab lunch before checking in at the Wild River Adventure office in West Glacier for the rafting portion of trip at 1:30pm.

Full Day Saddle Paddle - West Glacier
This trip combines a half day morning horseback ride in West Glacier with a 3 to 4 hour afternoon whitewater raft trip on the middle fork of the Flathead River. Check in at the West Glacier Corral behind the Rawhide Trading Post at 8:00am for the Half Day trail ride. A hearty trail lunch will be provided during the horseback portion of the trip and you’ll finish with the horses at 12:45pm. You’ll have a bit of time to peruse the Rawhide Trading Post and Gift Shop before checking into the Wild River Adventures office, conveniently located right next door. Check in for the rafting portion of trip at 1:30pm.

Four Day Saddle Paddle - West Glacier
This trip combines an overnight horseback trip in Flathead National Forest with a two and a half day whitewater trip on the middle fork of the Flathead River. This trip is available Tuesdays through Fridays. Check in at the West Glacier Corral behind the Rawhide Trading Post at 9:00am on Tuesday for the Overnight Horseback Trip. Spend the day riding through the heart of Flathead National Forest and taking in stunning views of Glacier National Park. A hearty trail lunch will be provided. At the end of the day, Swan Mountain wranglers will escort you to an established base camp complete with tents and a cook. You’ll spend the evening, fireside, gazing at more stars than you ever thought existed. On Wednesday morning, you’ll enjoy a true Montana breakfast and a leisurely ride back to the corrals in West Glacier. Another trail lunch will be provided before you check in at the Wild River Adventures office at noon and set off for the river. Each mile of this rafting trip is special with alternating stretches of whitewater and superb scenery. You will pass magnificent waterfalls, flow through cliff-walled canyons and run lots of rapids. These adventure trips include the big waves of Brown Hole Rapid (class III –IV), one of the best rapids on the Middle Fork. You’ll camp at private spots beneath shady cottonwood trees. Wild River Adventures has all the equipment to make camping out alongside the river a comfortable experience.

Great Northern Rafting Company

Two Hour Horseback Ride/Half Day Whitewater Adventure
This trip combines a two hour horseback ride in Glacier National Park with a 2 to 4 hour whitewater raft trip on the middle fork of the Flathead River. Most people prefer to ride first and then raft later, but you have the option of doing it in the order that best fits your vacation schedule. Available check in times at the Lake McDonald Corral for the Upper McDonald Creek two hour trail ride are 10:00am, 12:30pm or 2:45pm. You’ll finish with the horses at 12:45pm, 3:15pm or 5:30pm, respectively. Rafting check in times at the Great Northern Resort in West Glacier are: 10:15am, 11:15am, 2:15pm and 3:15pm.

Overnight Saddle and Paddle Package
This trips combines an overnight horseback trip on Flathead National Forest with an overnight rafting trip on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. Guests begin the trip by checking in to the West Glacier Corral behind the Rawhide Trading Post at 9:00 in the morning. While we go over important safety information with you, our experienced guides will be packing up your gear in preparation for our overnight adventure. We will spend the day exploring the forest, enjoying a hearty lunch on the trail and taking in the beauty of Glacier. In the late afternoon, we'll arrive at our Outfitter Camp, complete with wall tents and a fire pit. You'll have time to get settled before indulging in a traditional cowboy dinner with all the trimmings. You'll cap off the night, fireside, gazing at more stars than you ever knew existed. The next morning, we'll have our fill of hearty Montana breakfast before hitting the trail for a half day morning ride arriving back to the Corral just before noon.

At noon, your raft guide will pick you up at the Corral and bring you to Great Northern Resort for a light lunch before you depart on your river adventure. The wild and scenic Middle Fork of the Flathead is one of the great, wild rivers of the West. Great Northern's experienced river guides know the river intimately, assuring you an exciting ride through some of Montana's wildest whitewater rapids. You'll thrill to the excitement of a deep roar and the joyous screams from the preceding boats as you challenge the river at every drop. The river will carry you along between two great mountain ranges, with the Great Bear Wilderness on one side of the canyon and the lofty summits of Glacier National Park on the other. The Great Northern chef has her own organic garden from which she sources her vegetables, and the meat comes from local, responsible farms. Her delicious gourmet food is healthy, but hearty at the same time. There is no better way to enjoy your meals and your vacation than in the peaceful environment that is the wilderness in Northwest Montana!

Morning Ride/Afternoon Raft
This trip combines an early morning two hour horseback ride in West Glacier with a 2 to 4 hour afternoon whitewater or scenic raft trip on the middle fork of the Flathead River. Check in at 7:45am at the West Glacier Corral behind the Rawhide Trading Post and Restaurant. You’ll finish with the horseback ride at 10:30am and have time to grab lunch on your own before checking in to Glacier Raft Company’s West Glacier office at 1:00pm for the whitewater raft trip or 1:30pm for the scenic raft trip

Morning Raft/Afternoon Ride
This trip combines a 2 to 4 hour morning whitewater or scenic raft trip on the middle fork of the Flathead River with an afternoon two hour horseback ride in West Glacier. Check in to the Glacier Raft Company’s West Glacier office at 9:30am for either the whitewater or scenic raft trip. You’ll finish the raft trip between 12:00pm and 2:00pm (depending on the time of the year) and have time to grab lunch on your own before checking in at 2:45pm at the West Glacier Corral behind the Rawhide Trading Post and Restaurant.
